The Setup, Step by Step

Playing PS5 games on PC with KytyPS5 is straightforward once you know the flow. Follow these six steps in order. If you have not already, download KytyPS5 and confirm your hardware meets the system requirements first.

  1. 1
    Download and install KytyPS5

Get the build for your OS from the download page and run the installer. See the download page for platform-specific notes.

  2. 2
Obtain your PS5 game files legally

You need your own legitimately-obtained PS5 game files, such as those ripped from discs you own or from your own digital library. KytyPS5 does not provide games.

  3. 3
Add your games to the library

Open KytyPS5, go to File → Add Game Folder, and select the directory containing your game files. KytyPS5 scans and lists them automatically.

  4. 4
    Connect a controller

Plug in a DualSense, Xbox or generic gamepad via USB or Bluetooth. KytyPS5 auto-detects most controllers. Configure mappings in Settings → Controllers if needed.

  5. 5
    Adjust graphics settings

Set your target resolution and internal scale in Settings → Graphics. Start at 1080p, then increase to 4K if your hardware holds 60 FPS.

  6. 6
    Launch and play

Select a game in your library and click Play. The first launch compiles shaders, which may take a few minutes - subsequent launches are faster.

What You'll Need

A capable PC or Mac

Review the system requirements - PS5 emulation needs strong hardware. An NVMe SSD and fast CPU are essential.

Download the latest free build from our download page for Windows, macOS or Linux.

Your own game files

Legally-obtained PS5 game files from discs you own or your own digital library.

A controller

A DualSense, Xbox or compatible gamepad for the authentic console experience. Keyboard/mouse is also supported.

Performance Tips for Smooth Gameplay

Even on recommended hardware, a few settings make a big difference between a stuttery mess and a locked 60 FPS.

  • Enable the shader cache. Let the first launch finish fully. Pre-compiled community shader caches (available on the compatibility page) eliminate launch stutter entirely.
  • Keep games on an NVMe SSD. PS5 games stream assets constantly; a mechanical HDD will stutter and crash regardless of your CPU.
  • Start at 1080p, then upscale. Confirm 60 FPS at native resolution before pushing to 4K. The internal resolution scale slider lets you fine-tune.
  • Close background apps. Emulation wants every bit of CPU and memory bandwidth. Browsers, launchers and overlays all compete for it.
  • Update your GPU drivers. Vulkan performance improves steadily with each driver release - keep them current.
Pro tip: If a game runs but stutters, it is almost always shader compilation, not weak hardware. Play through it once and the stutter disappears permanently on future launches.

For game-specific performance notes, check the compatibility list, which includes recommended settings per title.

Setup FAQ

Do I need a PS5 console to use KytyPS5?

No. You do not need a PS5 console. KytyPS5 is a standalone program that runs on your PC or Mac. You only need the emulator, your own game files, and a capable computer.

Where do I get PS5 games to play?

You must supply your own legally-obtained game files. This typically means ripping a game from a PS5 disc you own, or using files from your own legitimate digital library. KytyPS5 does not provide, host or link to any copyrighted games.

Why is the first launch slow?

The first time you run a game, KytyPS5 compiles a shader cache for your specific GPU. This one-time process can take a few minutes and may cause stuttering. Once cached, subsequent launches are smooth, and you can also import community shader caches.

Can I use a keyboard and mouse instead of a controller?

Yes. KytyPS5 fully supports keyboard and mouse with customisable mappings. However, many PS5 games are designed for a controller, so a gamepad gives the best experience. We recommend a DualSense or Xbox controller.

Will my save files from a real PS5 transfer?

Save files between a real PS5 and an emulator use different encrypted formats and generally do not transfer directly. You start fresh in KytyPS5, but you can use save states to manage progress.

Ready to Set Up KytyPS5?

Download the emulator and follow the steps above - you'll be playing PS5 games on your PC in minutes.
